He takes a couple of steps back from the edge, though, and there's a bundle of rope ladder in his hands when he reappears, ready to be tossed down. It's a really long ladder. This is not the tallest building he's ever tried to get down from without going inside. "You mind if I join you? Unless you'd rather come up."
